To be perfectly honest, I feel like crap today. I had this crazy fever that went up and down like 5 times last night. I was alternating between burning up in bed and freezing myself in a cold sweat. But the funny thing about being a teacher is, it’s a lot easier to just come to work, no matter how crappy you feel, than it is to get someone else to do it for you. So I’m here.
At least what I had planned to do today in class didn’t really involve me much. I like classes like that.
Today the class made the first preparations for writing about The Catcher in the Rye by selecting a question, brainstorming examples from the book, and writing the beginning of a “discovery draft.” A discovery draft is sort of like a pre-first draft. You just let yourself write automatically as much as you can on your basic topic until you can’t think of anything more. It’s basically just an attempt to put together some raw materials to be used in creating a first draft.
